Smash Hit is a new title from Mediocre Games, who brought us Sprinkle, Sprinkle Junior and Sprinkle Islands. Judging from their past releases, one thing we know is that Mediocre knows how to emulate physics in games. With Smash Hit being completely outside the box for the company, the game is actually pretty cool.
The basic objective in Smash Hit is to break glass structures. You have a set amount of balls, although you can gain more if your have good aim. You use these balls to hit targets or generally break any glass barriers that happen to get in your way. Hitting targets will net you additional balls. The camera is slowly moving forward through the 3D world, which makes aiming a bit difficult as you’re hitting a constantly moving target.
If you fail to destroy the obstructions before you hit them, you lose some of your balls for every hit. If you use them all or lose them then the game is over, and you need to start the whole course over again, or drop back in at one of the checkpoints. The game moves through different stages and with each new stage the feel of the game changes.
The level design, the obstructions, the speed, the graphics and the music all shift to give each stage a fresh new feeling. Occasionally you can pick up boosters that give you an unlimited number of balls for a limited amount of time or slow down the speed of the game.
Graphics and Sound
Graphically, Smash Hit is really impressive. The in-game visuals are really polished, particularly on a high resolution display. The glass surfaces are very detailed and look absolutely stunning up close. There are also some nice smoke and particle effects to boot.
The physics in Smash Hit are also top notch, as this is to be expected coming from the makers of Sprinkle. The sound is also done well. The music is nice and the sound effects in particular are great. The shattering of glass sounds great but you also hear the sound of individual panes of glass fall and hit the ground or scatter around, along with the sound of the metal balls bouncing around.
Overall Smash Hit is a really well-made and polished piece of work. The gameplay is good and the visuals are simply amazing. There is a link to the free download below. Don’t forget to rate the game and leave us a comment on how much you enjoyed the game.
