Caveman Wars has been labeled by its developers as a tower defense game, but its more of a strategic card game RTS tower defense mash-up. You basically defend your hut from wild beasts, tigers, dinosaurs and cavemen as it seems it is the only place left with an available food supply.
Not Your Average Tower Defense Game
What’s interesting about Caveman Wars is the games unique mechanics. Not only because of the way you have to defeat the enemy, but also how you use your weapons which are stone cards. Strategy plays a big role here as the way you deploy your stone cards makes them more effective. The cards have different rarities and types and need to be used with the right combination and at the right time if you want to win. Combining all these gameplay mechanics gives you a strategy game which works nothing like you’ve probably ever played before. Learning how to swap cards at the right time, and when to launch AoE attacks or ground attacks will definitely boost your chances of winning. Each enemy has its own weakness and mobs should be treated with a different strategy all together.
A Prehistoric UI
Yes the theme of the game is cavemen and dinosaurs, but that does not excuse how clunky the UI can be at times. You’re pretty much thrown in the midst of the game with no idea or any way to find your objectives. So you just tap away until you win or until your hut gets raided which means game over. You can find hidden missions by tapping on the pause button, but completing those missions do not grant you a finished level. These missions also change every time you play a level.
After winning a battle you can use the coins you have tallied up to buy card packs (Stone, Elite and Ultimate). These packs contain more cards to help make your deck more powerful to smack down beasts. There’s also a help guide included in the settings section for you have to take a look at it after the tutorial is finished to refresh your memory of the game mechanics.
Caveman Wars is free for download and a link is available below. There are In App Purchases available but that didn’t seem to hinder my gaming experience. Don’t forget to rate the game and leave us a comment on how you felt about the game!
